Writing in Search of Flow
This is my first post capturing the following: Why this blog and What I will write about.
Making my Case
Hi everyone, I’m Harshini. Please look into my website1 if you are interested in learning more about me. For my first post, I will instead concentrate more on the writing. (I suppose though, talking about my writing is a roundabout way of talking about me? Please forgive me in that case.)
I’m here for a few reasons: One, my friend and champion of nearly 2 decades - Sri. Of all things, she read a book review I had written last month and loved it so much that she pushed me to start writing again. She also suggested Substack and has her own awesome newsletter2. So in a way, she is both my motivation and my inspiration!
Two, I used to love writing when I was in school and it was a hobby that gave me pure joy in a simple and uncomplicated way. I could write for hours without feeling bored or tired. I learnt later that this is what Psychologists call “Flow”3 , and coincidentally, I had recently renewed my quest to experience that state again. As I am writing this first post, I admit readily that it doesn’t feel easy and I am definitely not there yet.
Three, over the years, the idea of starting a blog has come to me from time to time but I used to shove it aside with the reasoning that the world had enough blogs already and that no one wanted to hear from me. But I believe that now I am in a place where I do have things to share that could actually help people. In addition, I used to have a healthy suspicion both of the internet and of sharing too much of myself online; however, now that we all live in a state of constant surveillance with no escape, I decided to give up and lean into it instead.
And finally, to rest my case, the timing now just feels right.
What I Will Write About
This blog is not going to be pointless. I am not going to ramble. I will keep it succinct and deliver a good story.
But if I do break any of those promises, feel free to let me know.
In this blog I will go over the following topics:
Working in, with and around AI. (It’s not going to be technical don’t worry. We have enough of those.)
Business School and my on-going experience getting into a part-time MBA program at UCLA.
Work-life Balance.
About my life, pets, books and general thoughts on culture.
I cannot promise that I will stick to the list above. But I can promise that anything I write will be genuine, well-researched and provide a female person-of-color perspective.
If you would like to hear more from me, subscribe for now, and then cancel later if you change your mind.
After all, I am a firm believer in cleaning up inboxes!
